How it works
Sodium cromoglicate stabilises the cells in the eye that release histamine and other allergy chemicals, stopping them before they trigger itching, redness and watering. It works best when used regularly rather than only when symptoms flare.
How it is taken
Available as eye drops, including over-the-counter for allergy. A drop is placed into the affected eye(s). Wash your hands first and keep the dropper tip clean. Use it regularly as directed for best effect, and follow your pharmacist's or the label's instructions exactly. Remove contact lenses before use unless advised otherwise.

Common side effects
