How it works
Simethicone works physically in the gut by joining small gas bubbles into larger ones that are easier to pass, relieving the pressure and discomfort of trapped wind. It is not absorbed into the body.
How it is taken
Comes as chewable tablets, capsules, oral liquid, and infant drops, and is often combined with antacids. It is taken by mouth, usually after meals or when symptoms occur. Take it exactly as the label or your pharmacist directs.
No doses here on purpose. The right strength and schedule depend on you — only a doctor or pharmacist should set them. Always follow your prescription and the label.
Common side effects
- Generally very well tolerated
- Occasional mild loose stools or nausea

- Severe allergic reaction (rare)
- Persistent or severe abdominal pain that should be assessed rather than self-treated
