Can I take paracetamol and an antibiotic like amoxicillin together while pregnant?

Paracetamol and amoxicillin are generally taken together without a known interaction, but only take an antibiotic if it has been prescribed and confirm with your pharmacist.

There is no well-known harmful interaction between paracetamol and amoxicillin, and they are sometimes used together, for example to treat an infection (amoxicillin) while easing fever or pain (paracetamol). Both are commonly considered acceptable in pregnancy when genuinely needed.

The key points are that antibiotics should only be taken when prescribed for a confirmed or strongly suspected bacterial infection, and paracetamol should be used at the lowest effective amount for the shortest time. Make sure you are not taking other products that also contain paracetamol.

Always tell your prescriber and pharmacist that you are pregnant and list everything else you are taking, including supplements, so they can check for any issues specific to you. If your symptoms worsen, you develop a rash or breathing difficulty, or a fever persists, contact your doctor.
