Vaccines

What vaccines do adults need?

Adults typically need a yearly flu shot, periodic tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis boosters, COVID-19 vaccination as advised, and age-based vaccines such as shingles, pneumococcal, and RSV. Some need extra vaccines based on travel, work, or health conditions.

Beyond childhood vaccines, adults still need ongoing protection. Common ones include an annual influenza vaccine, a tetanus-diphtheria booster roughly every 10 years (with one dose including whooping cough, especially in pregnancy), and COVID-19 doses as recommended for your age and risk group.

Age-triggered vaccines include shingles vaccine (usually from age 50), pneumococcal vaccine (commonly from age 65 or earlier with certain conditions), and RSV vaccine for older adults and during pregnancy in many regions. People who missed HPV vaccination as teenagers may still benefit up to certain ages.

Additional vaccines may be advised based on circumstances: hepatitis A and B, MMR if not immune, meningococcal for certain groups, and travel vaccines such as yellow fever or typhoid. Because schedules differ by country and personal risk, ask a doctor or pharmacist to review your records and build a personalised plan.
