Is it normal to have vaginal discharge every day?

Vaginal discharge is the body's way of keeping the vagina clean and moist. Normal discharge is usually clear to white, may be slippery and stretchy around ovulation, and is generally without a strong smell. The amount varies with your cycle, pregnancy, contraception, and arousal.

Signs that warrant a check include discharge that is green, grey, or yellow, has a strong or fishy odour, is thick and cottage-cheese-like, or comes with itching, burning, soreness, pelvic pain, or bleeding between periods. These can indicate infections such as thrush, bacterial vaginosis, or a sexually transmitted infection.

Avoid douching or using scented products inside the vagina, as these can disrupt its natural balance and cause irritation. If your discharge changes noticeably or you have other symptoms, see a clinician or pharmacist for advice and, if needed, testing.
